The mining museum of Oelsnitz/Erzgeb. is one of the biggest mining museums in Germany. It represents the development of the Saxon hard coal mining during its highly industrial stage as well as the technical preconditions linked to that period. Focused on the history of technology – completed by social history and geology – the museum shows exhibits about the history of the Saxon coal mining regions.
The heritage-protected buildings and the fully functional mining machinery preserve the traditions of this old industry.
In April 2000, another treasure was added to the museum: an outside exhibition area showing spacious technology. This includes, for example, a winding tower with a height of 17m, a hosting engine, a bobbin and a steam locomotive with wagon.
Starting from the original, 50 m high winding tower you can immerse into the subterranean labyrinth of haulage roads. Experience the adventure of entering a mine without being exposed to any danger. See, listen, and touch. Do not miss this event!
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday: 9.00 - 16.00 o´clock And on all public holidays
